This love month, show love in action by sponsoring a child

Love is patient, love is kind. Many of us may remember or have heard of this Bible passage, often used in weddings. For this month, World Vision is further embedding 1 Corinthians 13 into what we say and do. And for us, few things speak of love the way child sponsorship does.

“It is not self-seeking.” Sponsorship is an opportunity for an individual to experience and express one of the purest forms of love – to show kindness to someone who has no way of paying you back. It is truly not self-seeking, because it involves giving to those with fewer financial resources than we do.

“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” Part of Word Vision’s programs include teaching children about their rights and how to protect themselves. Adults are also trained in how to address cases of abuse, and how to build safe environments where children can thrive.  Child sponsorship allows children to receive spiritual nourishment, and ensures that families, especially the most vulnerable ones, enjoy positive and loving relationships among their members and are able to have hope and vision for the future together.

“It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” Sponsorship gives children a gift that few things can provide – the gift of hope. It empowers children to dream bigger dreams and imagine a life out of poverty. It enables communities to work together in building sustainable livelihoods and becoming more climate-resilient. It encourages vulnerable populations to do more with what they have and to continue working towards a brighter future.

“Love never fails.” When other things fail to motivate us, love can and love will. It is out of love that the people in World Vision continue to do what we do, day in and day out. And it is this kind of love that we wish to see in the communities we support, the sponsors who partner with us, and entire nation we serve.

1 Cor 16:14 – Do everything in love.

Make this 2023 the year you show love in action by sponsoring a child.
