Former sponsored child nominated as finalist in 16th Cardinal Sin Catholic Book Awards

Fr. Roseller Atilano, Jr., SJ’s book “The Miracle of the Ordinary” is one of the finalists in the 16th Cardinal Sin Catholic Book Awards. The awards, organized by the Asian Catholic Communicators, Inc. in collaboration with the Catholic Mass Media Awards is held annually to recognize Filipino Catholic authors.

Fr. Atilano’s book is nominated under the Homiletics category, which features books that pastors, speakers and church leaders can use as a reference in studying the Bible. Written during the pandemic, “The Miracle of the Ordinary” is a collection of homilies and reflections that remind readers of God’s grace and presence in everyday life.

“This is indeed a miracle of the ordinary,” Fr. Atilano says on Facebook. “To be chosen as a finalist is already an undeserved honor for me.”

Fr. Atilano, a former sponsored child of World Vision in the Philippines, graduated magna cum laude in Ateneo de Zamboanga, where he studied finance. He worked as a certified public accountant and also taught bookkeeping skills to farmers before entering the Society of Jesus in 2006. As a sponsored child, he received school essentials and participated in activities where he learned more about Jesus.

The 16th Cardinal Sin Catholic Book Awards will be streamed live on September 15, 2022 at 6 PM via the Manila International Book Fair Facebook page.
