3 months on: Little Chris Jane feels delighted with World Vision relief items

Chris Jane, 7 years old, is the happiest girl after her family received relief items from World Vision with the support from the government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Siargao Island, Surigao City – 7-year-old Chris Jane ran hurriedly to her home when the World Vision truck arrives in the nearby town hall. She announced to her grandparents that relief items will be given to them.

Wearing a smile from ear to ear, she grabbed her grandmother’s hand towards the townhall and directed her where to queue.

After several minutes, Virgilia, the grandmother, received her relief items including a food pack, hygiene kit, and household kit. She exited the distribution line where Chris Jane was excitedly waiting.

The young girl helped carry the packs and opened it with her grandparents.

Her eyes widened when she held a bath soap and a toothbrush set – her favorites among other items. She also felt relieved when she saw the mosquito net from a different box.

“During the middle of the typhoon, we were staying inside a classroom building but the roof was blown away. We had to run towards a neighbor’s house. I carried Chris Jane who was crying hard that time,” shared Bernardino, the 57-year-old grandfather. “I am glad to see Chris this happy because we really went through a terrible experience.”

The grandparents also expressed that they still need shelter materials in rebuilding a stronger home. But for now, they are thankful that their little Chris Jane has clean water to drink, food supplies to eat, hygiene items to clean her body, and bedroom items for a better sleep at night.

Within three months, World Vision has reached a total of 13,312 families families for its World Vision’s emergency response wherein the organization also provided 3,111 food packs, 2,500 emergency shelter kits, 2,892 hygiene kits, 2,000 kitchen kits, 2,892 non-food items including mosquito nets and blankets, and 1,000 water purification packets in Bohol, Cebu, Negros Occidental, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte provinces.
