The Open Generation: A Global Teens Study

The Open Generation is a global study on young adults by the Barna Group, in partnership with World Vision, that dates back in 2018 to 2019. Its main finding is that young adults ages 18 to 35 “contend with strong currents of anxiety, loneliness, and skepticism.”

Consequently, areas of need and opportunities for churches to better lead and support young adults were highlighted.

The study continued in 2021 in partnership with 6 more organizations to broaden the study’s scope, conducting more than 25,000 interviews in 26 countries. Focusing on a younger age group (ages 13 to 17), its goal is to advance the understanding of teens’ identity, values, and views; and to “offer a picture of the global Church’s relationship to a rising generation.”
