Public Spaces for Children’s Consultation Report

This report provides information on principles and guidance for public spaces for children. The consultation process examined different aspects of children’s experience in public spaces including: 1) proximity and accessibility, 2) safety, 3) cleanliness, and 4) stability, usability, and playfulness.

This report draws from 25 key informant interviews and 16 focus group discussions with girls and boys aged eight to 18 in eight countries. The voices and experience of children in different contexts can help establish mapping mechanisms and definitions of public spaces for children, and develop principles to provide urban planning policy and design guidance.
