World Vision to Present Child-Led Advocacy Research at the 11th National Social Science Congress

Quezon City, Philippines – World Vision Development Foundation, Inc. will be presenting its research paper, “Addressing Barriers to Nutritious Food Access for Children: A Child-Led Advocacy and Meaningful Participation (CHAMP) Changemakers Research on Hunger and Malnutrition with World Vision Philippines,” at the upcoming 11th National Social Science Congress (NSSC11) in Baguio City this September.

The paper, authored by Princess R. Ocampos with co-authors Mikaela R. Alvea and Princess Mae C. Saranillo, will highlight how children are taking the lead in advocacy efforts and meaningfully participating in tackling hunger and malnutrition.

They will also lead the presentation of the study at NSSC11 this week. It is an important milestone in amplifying children’s voices in academic and advocacy spaces.

“This is truly a great honor and opportunity for us,” says Princess Mae Saranillo, one of the child presenters.

“It’s not every day that one gets to speak before experts, and not everyone is given the opportunity to represent children. That’s why we see this as an inspiration to share our child-led advocacy in the best way we can,” she added.

Through the CHAMP Changemakers Research, the study will show how empowering children’s voices can break barriers to accessing nutritious food, helping shape healthier communities and stronger advocacy on child well-being.

“Giving children and young people a platform makes advocacy more personal and powerful, empowers them to be part of the solution… and makes change more meaningful and sustainable.” Chifadel Mabolo, Safeguarding Manager of WVDF, said.

“Children are among the first affected by hunger and malnutrition, so they must be included—and even lead—in the advocacy to end it,” she added.

Organized by the Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC), NSSC11 will gather scholars, practitioners, and organizations nationwide to present impactful social science research that addresses pressing issues in Philippine society.

World Vision’s upcoming presentation reflects its ongoing commitment to advancing research, advocacy, and child participation in addressing hunger and malnutrition—a challenge still faced by many Filipino children.
