Students enjoy new and improved World Vision-donated Reading Hubs

Learners from two public schools in Zamboanga del Norte can now improve their reading skills by reading books in their new and improved reading hubs.

World Vision Development Foundation, Inc. supported the construction of a new reading hub in one public elementary school and donated tables, chairs, and learning materials in another school.

World Vision works in Zamboanga del Norte for more than 5 years already. Building classrooms, reading hubs and donating learning materials, are part of the organization’s commitment to improve the reading and writing skills of students.

“Before, the classrooms served as the library in this school. The readers couldn’t focus because of other students playing or doing other activities,” shared Nelson Tableo, the school principal of one of the school beneficiaries. “Now, we have a well-spaced and well-ventilated reading hub where students love to go.”

Students considered as slow-readers also take their remedial classes in the reading hubs. An assigned teacher also conducts storytelling sessions to students regularly.

“I’m happy to have a new library with new books!” Leonard, 11, shared excitedly. He and his friends usually go to the reading hub after their class to explore and read other books.

The projects are made possible with the support of the school and the parents for the through project proposals and manpower during construction.

Our goals are to protect Filipino children, save their lives, reduce their suffering, protect their livelihoods and strengthen their community. Children are at the center of everything we do. They are the key to a bright future for these communities.
