Typhoon Ompong: World Vision ready to respond to 4,000 families

As of 3PM on Wednesday, September 12, state weather bureau said that typhoon Mangkhut has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Weather bureau PAGASA’s 11AM bulletin shows that the typhoon is moving West at 20 kilometer per hour (km/h), packing maximum sustained winds of up to 205 km/h and gustiness of up to 255 km/h. The eye of Mangkhut is currently at 725 km East of Virac, Catanduanes

Mangkhut is expected to make landfall in the northern tip of Cagayan on Saturday, September 15. State weather bureau said that Mangkhut may peak at maximum sustained winds of 220kph and gust of up to 270 km/h on Thursday, September 13.

World Vision is ready to respond to families that are likely to be affected by typhoon Mangkhut. Prepositioned items good for 4,000 families are ready to be mobilised to complement government’s efforts. The emergency supplies include hygiene kits (toothbrush, toothpaste, laundry and bath soaps, malong, sanitary pads, nail cutter, underwear) and non-food items like blankets and mosquito nets.
