FORWARD PROGRAM: Vegetable seeds distribution for farming families

Some vegetable seed packets will be distributed to 250 farming families in Batangas who expressed interest to grow vegetables in their garden. The vegetable seeds which include common plants such as eggplants, tomatoes, and squash are part of the FORWARD project of World Vision in Batangas.

The Food for Education with Agricultural Development and Sustainability (FORWARD) program aims to help and train families to successfully grow vegetables in their backyard. “Families who are able to successfully grow vegetables will be also be given incentives such as sack of rice.

This is to help them to cope with the rising prices of basic commodities in the market which doubled since COVID-19 pandemic started,” Douglas Chua, Program Manager in Batangas, said. Vegetables are mainly for consumption of the families. “They may also sell the vegetables if they have extra produce which would add to their household income,” Chua added. The local Agricultural Services Office also provides support to the FORWARD project by sharing knowledge on how to grow vegetables especially in the summer season, and giving away vegetable seeds to more families as well.
