Rex Book Store partners with World Vision to support 1,500 children in honor of teachers

In line with the celebration of World Teacher’s Day, Rex Book Store recently mounted its annual thanksgiving dinner with the theme “Pay it Forward, A Night of Changing Lives”, held last October 3, 2018 at the Sofitel Harbor Garden Tent in Pasay City.

Attended mostly by Rex Book Store’s Partners in Education, including the members of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines, the big event, helmed by its Chairman Atty. Dominador Buhain and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Mr. Don Timothy Buhain, who led the honors of paying tribute to all the Filipino teachers.

COO Buhain praised the educators for their valuable contribution to the society and the successes of the year, as he also highlighted the importance of working together to secure the future of children from all walks of life. “Tayong lahat, kapit-bisig. Para sa bata, para sa bayan”, said COO Buhain.

Mr. Buhain also proudly introduced Rex Book Store’s newly found partnership with child-focused agency World Vision which currently assists over 80,000 children nationwide through its education, health and nutrition programs among others.

“This is our way of letting everyone be part of the journey from brokenness to blessedness. Through this effort, all of us here can become instruments of wholeness”, Buhain shared.

Rex Book Store donated to World Vision, in the name of guests present and its Partners in Education during the special dinner. This translates to at least 1,500 children supported in the next three months through World Vision’s Child Sponsorship program.

In response, no less than Captain Armand Balilo, the spokesperson of the Philippine Coast Guard and a Former Sponsored Child of World Vision, shared his inspiring story on how he was given the second chance in life through World Vision. “I am forever grateful for the family (through World Vision) that helped me finish my education.”  Captain Balilo has gone full circle as he currently pays forward serving as one of the Board members of World Vision in the Philippines. He also sponsors a couple of children for years now.

Also joining the evening affair was World Vision celebrity ambassador Joyce Pring who serenaded the generous crowd and graciously shared about her personal experience supporting children through World Vision . “You would get a chance to really help and change a child’s life,” Pring assured the delighted crowd as she parts with a challenge to be God’s channel of blessings to children through the gift of Child Sponsorship.

For the turning over of the donation, Rex Bookstore Chairman Atty. Dominador Buhain and COO Mr. Don Timothy Buhain were joined on-stage by World Vision executive director, Mr. Rommel Fuerte.

“Thank you for sponsoring children through World Vision! We are grateful and honored to partner with you and with Rex Publishing in making a difference in the lives of Filipino children one child at a time”, Mr. Fuerte said in appreciation to the generosity of Rex Book Store.

Through child sponsorship, World Vision aims to provide children access to basic life essentials. It works with communities to build lasting systems that enable children and their families to live productive lives.

To date, there are at least 34,000 Filipino children sponsored by fellow Filipinos. World Vision hopes to sponsor 6,000 more children in 2019. With generous individuals and like-minded companies like Rex Book Store, more children will have opportunities to live a full life and be closer to the fulfillment of their dreams.
