School supplies for Math genius Nicole

As soon as 5-year old, Nicole received her learner’s kit from World Vision, she took out her paper and showed her math prowess. At a young age, she is able to answer simple addition and subtraction worksheets easily.

“I’m not sure how it started but since she started going to school, I’ve noticed her inclination to Math. She is really good at it,” said her mother, Vanessa.

Nicole is a bubbly and intelligent girl from Baseco. She smiles a lot, she hugs her mom a lot and her sunny disposition draws her to her fellow children. If there is one thing that excites her every waking day, that is going to school.

“I would like to become a teacher someday,” she shared. She wants to teach other children how to love

Math.

Vanessa is confident that Nicole can be whatever she wants to be because of her enthusiasm for education. She fears, however, that poverty would get in the way. Her husband is a company worker, earning a minimum wage of P500 each day while she stays at home to take care of the children.

“It is still a long journey for my child but my husband and I will try our best to provide her the future she deserves. We are also thankful for people who are always supporting us,” she said.

Simple things with big impact

World Vision recently distributed school kits that include bag, pad papers, and notebooks to its supported communities across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. For most children like Nicole whose family cannot fully afford to buy school supplies during class openings, the intervention is a big thing.

“Thank you for these school supplies,” exclaimed Nicole, showing the scribbled note on her new pad paper.
