E&I Brief 9: TP Evaluation for H&N (Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation)
In FY 2024, the World Vision Development Foundation (WVDF) conducted a comprehensive evaluation of its major technical programming interventions, including its Health and Nutrition (H&N) programs. The primary objective was to assess program performance in terms of relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability, and inclusivity, and to determine the extent to which these programs are achieving their intended outcomes across WVDF’s various Area Programs (APs).
The technical evaluation for the H&N program was carried out by the University of the Philippines Manila – College of Public Health Foundation, Inc. (UPM-CPHFI). This assessment examined the effectiveness of the Health and Nutrition project models implemented across four (4) project study sites in the country.
A significant aspect of the evaluation examined how WVDF integrates Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) interventions into H&N programming. These efforts include promotion of hygienic practices such as handwashing, food hygiene, and sanitation for infants and young children which are critical measures that help prevent chronic diarrhea and undernutrition, supporting better nutritional outcomes for children. The evaluation focused on beneficiaries’ WASH knowledge, behaviors, and the overall impact of these interventions.
The findings highlight that WVDF’s H&N programs provide both essential WASH-related information and practical resources, including toilets, water tanks, water filtration systems, and handwashing stations. Beneficiaries also demonstrated strong understanding and application of proper WASH practices, including correct handwashing techniques, indicating the programs’ effectiveness in promoting hygiene and protecting children’s health and nutrition.
