E&I Brief 7: TP Evaluation for H&N (Positive Deviance Hearth and Go Baby Go)
In FY 2024, the World Vision Development Foundation (WVDF) conducted a comprehensive evaluation of its major technical programming interventions, including its Health and Nutrition (H&N) programs. The primary objective was to assess program performance in terms of relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability, and inclusivity, and to determine the extent to which these programs are achieving their intended outcomes across WVDF’s various Area Programs (APs).
The technical evaluation for the H&N program was carried out by the University of the Philippines Manila – College of Public Health Foundation, Inc. (UPM-CPHFI). This assessment examined the effectiveness of the Health and Nutrition project models implemented across four (4) project study sites in the country.
A key focus of the evaluation was WVDF’s contribution to addressing undernutrition through interventions that improve child feeding practices and overall well-being. Specifically, the assessment examined the nutritional status of children aged 0–5, the feeding practices of mothers with children aged 0–2, and the impact of two major WVDF models: Positive Deviance/Hearth (PD/H) and the Go Baby Go! (GBG) Parenting Programme, within the communities served.
Findings from the evaluation indicate that beneficiaries reported gaining new knowledge on proper childcare and feeding through PDH and GBG. Additionally, focus group discussions revealed that after participating in the programs, caregivers began incorporating more nutritious foods such as fruits, vegetables, fresh meat, and fish into their children’s diets. Participants also changed their approach to disciplining their children to more positive methods and consistently recalled the proper breastfeeding practices they had learned.
