Ogie Alcasid Shares Memorable Experience in Zambales

Last July 21, Ogie Alcasid, the country’s premier singer-songwriter and child advocate, visited one of World Vision’s supported communities— Barangay Lupang Pangako in Iba, Zambales.

In a press conference held August 6, 2013 for his upcoming concert, Ogie shared his memorable experience with the indigenous group of Aetas, who were displaced after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991. He talked about how they lost their homes, and how World Vision has helped them relocate and build their lives anew.

“Ang World Vision po nag-purchase ng ilang ektarya sa isang barrio para sa kanila,” he shared to the press. “So nagpunta kami doon, nakilala sila, nakipag-share sila ng testimony sa akin. Sobra akong natuwa.”

One of the best days of my life”

Ogie recalled how got to interact with some of the locals, where they sang song to him that the children, themselves, composed.

Ogie shared some of his thoughts: "Masaya akong makita sila.

Ogie's community experience, which he described as "one of the best days of his life", has blessed him so much that he offered to donate a sound system to the local church. Musical instruments, microphone, speakers.”

This announcement was received with ecstatic cheers from the crowd. Unbeknownst to Ogie, the community has long been praying for a sound system for the church. For years, the worship team had to make do with an old drum set which they play with a pair of twigs because they couldn't afford decent drumsticks.

"Marahil iniisip ninyong blessed kayo dahil nakadalaw ako dito.
