Cebu City – Child-focused organization World Vision Development Foundation joins the members of the Regional Nutrition Council in Region 7 during the launch of this year’s Nutrition Month Celebration on July 3, 2017.
In celebration of the 43rd National Nutrition Month, a one-day launch was simultaneously celebrated across all regions in the country. In Region 7, a caravan that was joined by government agencies, civic society organizations, and NGOs was held in the morning. The vehicles carried large tarpaulins advocating Healthy Diet Promotion and visited food establishments to encourage healthier food selections for consumers.
After the caravan, a fiesta-themed Nutrition Food Bazaar highlighted the celebration. Several activities were conducted including the launch of the theme “Healthy diet, gawing habit – FOR LIFE,” the social media campaign #SusLami, and the declaration of the Nutrition Month Pledge.
World Vision, a development organization that has been present in the country for six decades, has been a member of the council since 2014. The organization implements Health and Nutrition, one of its banner programs, all over the country. With specific nutrition projects such as Pinoy Nutrition Hub (a community based nutrition project to address malnutrition), the promotion on the importance of the first 1,000 days, and organizing community breastfeeding support groups, the organization has been supporting the leading goal of the National Nutrition Council, which is to improve the nutrition status of every Filipino.
“Since World Vision envisions children to be healthy, we want this to start from the beginning of their growth. We aim to promote good health and nutrition as early as conception. The cycle of malnutrition affects all stages thus there is a need to expand support for holistic intervention,” shares Eureka P. Fuentes, World Vision Health and Nutrition Technical Specialist.
The organization will also conduct a series of health and nutrition activities across the Visayas regions in close coordination with other stakeholders as commemoration of the month-long celebration.World Vision/July 6, 2017
