Through capacity building trainings, technical assistance and access to savings and credit facilities, World Vision and Citi Foundation are working together to help provide communities and families with sustainable livelihood. At least 300 beneficiaries across Luzon will benefit from this partnership.

World Vision is introducing its Local Value Chain Development (LVCD) and Community Managed Savings and Credit Association (CoMSCA) programs in the six target communities, namely, Isabela, Malabon, Manila (BASECO), Palawan, Cavite, and Batangas. CoMSCA is a community savings and lending system that allows its members to save and multiply their finances by regularly buying shares and borrowing money. On the other hand, LVCD helps producers increase their wealth through better engagement with markets and by building relationships with critical service providers that can help them overcome market barriers.

The partnership was launched on November 15, 2016 in Baseco, Manila. Since then, World Vision has conducted needs assessment workshops and value chain trainings to 11 LVCD groups with 92 participants from Cavite, Batangas, Manila, and Malabon. Groups from Isabela and Puerto Prinsesa will also be receiving said workshops.

The target communities are currently engaged in different livelihood projects, from bag-making, dishwashing liquid production, and frame making, to rice trading, hog raising, feeds supply, ginger production, and meat processing.

Bernardo Cetra from Batangas, who attended LVCD sessions for candy making, had this to say, “What I learned from the trainings was the value of doing a value chain map analysis. This helped us see the flow of our business, from supply to target markets. Because of the trainings, we also saw the obstacles and opportunities of our business which will help us prepare and plan for them. Thank you to World Vision and to Citi Foundation.”

Apart from the LVCD seminars, CoMSCA Training of Trainers will also be conducted to deepen their knowledge and skills in organizing and monitoring CoMSCA groups and its processes.

In succeeding trainings, volunteers from Citi Philippines will also be conducting trainings lead by subject-matter experts on finance and business management.

“We welcome the opportunity to take an active role in this community program, by inviting our employees to share their skills and expertise as speakers and resources on a wide range of topics covering personal finance to marketing to operations. At Citi, we believe in taking a More Than Philanthropy approach in our community investments. We create and pursue volunteer activities for our employees to give back in the communities where we live and work,” said Aneth Lim, Director for Public Affairs and Corporate Citizenship.
