World Vision appointed as Brigada Pagbasa lead co-convenor

The Department of Education (DepEd) officially appointed World Vision Development Foundation as the lead co-convenor of Brigada Pagbasa.

“Brigada Pagbasa: Sama-sama, Tulong-tulong sa Pagpapapaunlad ng Kultura ng Pagbasa” is a project that intends to bring together educators, policymakers, and stakeholders across sectors to equip Filipino learners with improved functional literacy skills. Its goals include educational transformation through digital and non-digital approaches, identification of low-cost strategies to improve access to and the quality of education, and build more inclusive learning environments among others.

“I was overjoyed when the Department of Education through the Office of External Partnership Services agreed to appoint WVDF as their co-lead convener of Brigada Pagbasa,” Geomel Jetonzo, WVDF Education Technical Program Manager and the proponent of the project, shared.

Once the appointment is formalized with a memorandum of agreement, World Vision and DepEd plan to present and cascade Brigada Pagbasa at the Philippine International Literary Forum and at the national, regional, and division levels.

“This opportunity will not only raise awareness about what World Vision is doing to help the most vulnerable but will also deepen our impact at the national scale by creating a mass movement for reading that envisions to enjoin the Filipino from all walks of life to contribute in nation building by helping in teaching our children how to read and become educated for life,” Jetonzo said.
