Eastern Samar hit by a 6.5-magnitude earthquake

The municipality of San Julian in Eastern Samar was hit by a 6.5-magnitude earthquake at 1:37 p.m. this afternoon, April 23.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin. Major cities nearby such as Tacloban and Catbalogan felt Intensity V, while neighboring cities in the southern part of Luzon – Masbate City, Legazpi City, and Sorsogon City felt Intensity IV.

World Vision Development Foundation (WVDF) has operations in Samar and Leyte provinces in Visayas, and in Legazpi and Sorsogon in the Bicol Region in Luzon.

WVDF is monitoring the incident and assessing the condition of families in the affected areas.

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake just recently hit parts of Northern Luzon and Metro Manila yesterday which caused 11 deaths and more than 80 injuries.
