A 6.3 magnitude quake hit North Cotabato in Mindanao

A 6.3 magnitude quake with a depth of 015km hit North Cotabato in Mindanao, Philippines. Damages and aftershocks are expected according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Kidapawan City an area programme of World Vision in North Cotabato that caters to 2500 children, felt the shaking at Intensity 7 – a scale classified by Phivolcs as “destructive”.

“People ran towards open areas following the earthquake. No reported casualties or wounded people yet. Some areas are without electricity and the city government has opened some evacuation centres. We are also monitoring WV-assisted children at the moment,” says Kidapawan-based staff Rex Rubio.

World Vision staff are on full alert and will continue to monitor updates from the ground.
