Kids Lead Simultaneous Reading on Climate Change

Children from World Vision communities participated in a simultaneous reading event to raise awareness about climate change and highlight the crucial role children play in addressing it.
The event, dubbed “Kwentong Klima (Climate Story): A Simultaneous Reading Activity of Children”, brought together more than 2,000 schoolchildren, children with disabilities, teachers, volunteers, and parents to read a story on climate change. Child participants also pledged to be more caring about the environment.
The featured story, “Emang Enkantada at ang Tatlong Haragan” (Fairy Emma and the Three Lazy Kids) by Adarna Publishing, is a picture book about children who refuse to care for their environment.
After the reading session, World Vision Resource Director Jun Godornes led children in a simultaneous pledge, affirming children’s commitment to study hard and become young advocates for the environment.

Part of the pledge stated, “Basa! Alaga! Protekta! Para sa kinabukasan. Para sa kalikasan. Para sa mga bata.” (Read! Care! Protect! For the future. For the environment. For all children.)
“Events like this remind us of the power of stories to teach children about climate change,”
Hiasma Gani, World Vision Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Advisor, said. “Children’s involvement in climate change discussions is crucial and necessary to create a more resilient and sustainable future.”
In partnership with various schools and public libraries, the simultaneous reading event was held in World Vision communities in Albay, Batangas, Camarines Sur and Norte, Cebu, Manila, Malabon, Pangasinan, Quezon City, and Sorsogon.

Aside from reading and storytelling, children also enjoyed fun quizzes, charades, and drawing. A teacher in Batangas even wore a fairy costume to help convey the story’s message.
In Quezon City, participants from Kabahagi Center for Children with Disabilities expressed their vision of a better and safer environment through creative drawings and newspaper cut-outs.
Schoolchildren in Cebu read aloud the story and learned ways to care for their environment.
Teachers, volunteers, and child leaders in Pangasinan, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, and Sorsogon assisted in facilitating the reading session and pledge.

The event is part of this month’s three major observances: National Children’s Month, National Reading Month, and Climate Change Consciousness Week. (L. Carillo | Advocacy Communications Officer | November 2025)
