Hope comes full circle at World Vision Philippines’ first Donor Cafe in Cebu

CEBU CITY, Philippines | On May 9, 2026, World Vision Philippines held its first-ever Donor Cafe and Loyal Donor Appreciation Event at Golden Prince Hotel & Suites, gathering sponsors and partners in celebration of generosity, hope, and transformed lives.

The event brought together 27 sponsors, 12 guests, and 13 staff and attendees. Among the sponsors present were five former sponsored children who have now become sponsors themselves, while several others have faithfully supported children through World Vision for more than two decades.

The event was made possible through the support of Golden Prince Hotel & Suites, which generously sponsored the venue and food for the gathering.

One of the former sponsored children, Sherry “Sheri” Balansag, shared her inspiring testimony during the event. Sponsored for 10 years, Sheri recalled the challenges her family faced due to poverty and limited access to education. “I was really hungry to learn, and due to poverty, it seemed very hard. But then came World Vision,” Sheri shared.

Despite their difficult living conditions, Sheri remained eager to pursue her education. Through the support of World Vision’s sponsorship program, she was able to continue her studies from elementary until her first year in college. “God really answered my prayers through World Vision. Because of how blessed I felt, I knew it was time for me to give back,” she added.

Today, Sheri continues to pay forward the kindness she once received by sponsoring two children through World Vision. “Truly, this organization is the hands and feet of Jesus,” she said.

Another sponsor, Romina Rizarri, who has been supporting children through World Vision for 24 years, shared how giving has become a source of joy and purpose in her life. “God loves a cheerful giver,” Romina shared. “Children spark joy in me, and sponsoring them allows me to help give hope for their future.”

Together with her younger sister, who has also been a sponsor for 10 years, Romina continues supporting children in the hope of helping them achieve their dreams. Reflecting on her journey as a sponsor, she shared how witnessing the milestones of sponsored children brings her a deep sense of fulfillment and joy.

Meanwhile, 10-year loyal sponsor Cathy Recto emphasized the impact of sponsorship not only on children, but also on their families and communities. “It’s fulfilling on our part to make a difference not just in the life of my sponsored child, but also in her family and community,” Cathy said.

Her husband also reflected on the deeper meaning of giving through sponsorship. “When we give something, we think we are the ones giving. But through World Vision, we realize that we are actually the ones receiving. We’re receiving peace of mind and the gift of becoming a blessing to others,” he shared. “You are not only giving monetary support to children; you are helping shape their lives.”

“It became a powerful full-circle moment as former sponsored children, who are now thriving professionals, returned as partners and sponsors themselves, giving back the same hope that once changed their lives,” said Lucille Latonio, Donor Care Services Specialist.

The Donor Café served as a meaningful gathering to honor the commitment of loyal sponsors and celebrate stories of hope, transformation, and generosity that continue to impact children and communities across the country.
