Medtronic Supports the World Vision Abutin Na10 Campaign Through Its Project 6 Initiative

The efforts to help ensure uninterrupted education for Filipino learners continue as the country prepares for the opening of classes in the coming days.

Many of DepEd and World Vision partners have been giving their support in various ways through the “Abutin Na10” campaign such as Medtronic, a global leader in medical technology.  This company has been providing support to World Vision’s virtual employee engagement activities such as Project 6.  One of their employees, Mr. Josh Maymay, signed up as volunteer writer and shared his experience on how partnerships like volunteer engagements are making an impact in the world today.

The great Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Yes, it is our weapon against any challenges and hindrances that the world threatens us. Education is diverse and a never-ending quest for children, adults, the elderly and professionals. It is a non-gender-based asset that everyone can obtain and certainly is the bread and butter towards success.

Growing up in a secluded area in the province with limited access to technology and better-quality education, I solely relied on books that are available at the library. At that time, internet is not yet known to many and not accessible in the rural area. I even read crumpled newspapers that are used to cover goods and dried fish. At school, teachers struggled in distributing the books to the students due to the lack of necessary resources. Aside from the limited books at the library, there was no other option in addressing the issue. As an initiative, all classroom teachers allocated one book for two students. For them, it was an alternative way of tackling the critical shortage of learning materials. However, the scarcity of these tools never hindered me in learning how to read, write and eventually obtain a proper education. As my parents always say, “Son, whatever happens, you have to finish your studies for you to live a good life. We are not wealthy. The only possession that we can leave you is education and no one can take it away from you.” As cliché as it may sound, I lived by that philosophy and it became my guide as I moved forward.

My definition of education is: “Education is the core of humanity.” It defines us as people. It changes our perception of the world. It teaches us to be just. It connects us to our family, to other people, to the society, to God.  

COVID-19 continues to devastate the world and many sectors of the society had ceased their operations. Nonetheless, this pandemic created a moment for us to connect with people and communities – to give back.

I believe that education is the paramount key to success, so I want to help the children continue theirs. I am supporting Medtronic’s Project 6 Advocacy along with World Vision Philippines’ program Abutin Na10 Campaign.

Together we can make distance learning possible for the Filipino youth, for our nation.
