Young teachers on bike

World Vision recently donated 20 new pedicabs (bicycle with attached seat for one or two passengers) that will be used to teach children in remote places in the community.

“The pedicabs will carry books and other school materials needed to teach young students how to read,” Wilma Alvarez, World Vision Program Officer, said.

The pedicabs were donated to Go Bikers, a youth-initiated group that provides support to communities in terms of health, disaster preparedness and education, among others.

The donated pedicabs is part of World Vision and Department of Education’s Brigada Pagbasa, a literacy campaign that seeks to enhance the reading skills of the Filipino children.

“Thank you, World Vision donors for these bikes! These bikes will surely help children reach their dreams. We, the Go Bikers, are always ready to support this literacy endeavor in any way we can,” Edren Llanillo, Go Bike team lead, shared on Go Bike’s Facebook page.

World Vision has also provided partner schools with photocopiers, printers, inks and bond papers to help produce volumes of modules that teachers give to students every week. Teacher and parents also undergo World Vision trainings on storytelling and book creation.
