A simple baon can change a child’s school day
World Vision launches #SchoolMeals online challenge
Manila, Philippines — For many Filipino children, going to school hungry is a daily reality. This makes it harder to focus, participate, and learn.
With around 1 in 5 Filipino children aged 5 to 10 still underweight, World Vision Philippines is launching #SchoolMeals, a nationwide online challenge that encourages families to take a simple but powerful step by preparing healthy school meals at home.
The initiative is a digital activation under World Vision’s ENOUGH Campaign, a long-term effort to address child hunger and malnutrition in the Philippines. Through this campaign push, World Vision aims to spark everyday action among Filipino families while building broader awareness on the link between nutrition and education.
“Children learn better when they are nourished. A full day of learning can start with something as simple as a healthy meal prepared at home,” said World Vision’s National Director, Dr. Herbert Q. Carpio. “This campaign is a reminder that small, everyday efforts by families can make a big difference in a child’s future.”

A national challenge that affects learning
In the Philippines, child nutrition remains a pressing concern. According to the Food and Nutrition Research Institute, undernutrition continues to affect millions of Filipino children. This impacts their energy levels, school participation, and overall development.
The country also faces a “triple burden of malnutrition,” which includes undernutrition, overnutrition, and micronutrient deficiencies.
To address this, the Department of Education continues to implement and expand its School-Based Feeding Program under Republic Act 11037, reaching millions of learners nationwide. However, not all children consistently benefit from structured feeding support, making the role of families and communities even more critical.

From online action to real-life impact
Designed as a promotional and engagement strategy of World Vision’s ENOUGH Campaign, the #SchoolMeals online challenge taps into social media to reach parents, caregivers, and communities, especially in urban areas.
The campaign reinforces that nutrition does not need to be expensive or complicated. Simple, affordable meals prepared at home can already help children concentrate better, participate actively, and perform well in school.
World Vision ambassadors are lending their voices to encourage Filipino families to take part in the movement.
Sarah Geronimo Guidicelli shared, “Every child deserves the chance to learn and reach their dreams. Something as simple as preparing a healthy baon can already help them stay focused and confident in school. I hope more families will join this movement and make nutrition part of their daily routine.”
Meanwhile, Matteo Guidicelli emphasized the importance of shared responsibility, “Nutrition plays a big role in a child’s growth and learning. This campaign is a great reminder that we all have a part to play, whether you are a parent, a teacher, or a community member. Together, we can help children be ready for school every day.”
Join the online movement
From May 1 to 28, families are encouraged to participate in the #MySchoolMeal online challenge by sharing photos or videos of their children’s healthy baon, along with why school meals matter.
By using the hashtags #SchoolMeals and #MySchoolMeal, participants help spread awareness that what children eat today shapes how they learn tomorrow.
World Vision invites everyone to take part in this growing online movement, because helping children succeed in school can start at home, one meal at a time.
