Madamo gid nga salamat: Former sponsored children from Iloilo share how World Vision changed their lives

After 20 fruitful years, World Vision bids goodbye to its area programme in Iloilo. When the organization opened in the community in 1999, it sought to address some of the most pressing problems affecting children: poverty, malnutrition, disaster risks, education, and lack of livelihood opportunities. Two decades later, more than 6,368 children in Iloilo were sponsored and had access to their most basic needs. These are some of their messages of hope:

“Growing up in a squatters’ area, it was common for me to see child labor and other problems among my neighbors. It made me think that I should become a solution or an asset in the society. I was very idealistic thinking that I can change the world. Being a World Vision program officer is a fulfillment of my childhood dream.”

“One reason that I became a teacher is World Vision. I was a child leader back then and I underwent many trainings and seminars.”

“I hope the sponsors know how big their impact is in the lives of Filipino children. If you can see in the World Vision logo, there is a star. For me it symbolizes hope for the children. I wish that World Vision could still reach out to many children. Because for me and other sponsored children, we had big dreams too and World Vision made it possible for us.”
