World Vision honors partners of the Marawi Peace and Protection Project

World Vision Development Foundation, Inc. recognized the effort of its partners in supporting the Marawi Peace and Protection Project during a ceremony held at Marianne Suites, Cagayan de Oro City last June 28, 2019.

Officials from the Department of Education (DepEd) Marawi City and Lanao del Norte Divisions, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Marawi City, Barangay leaders, partner organizations, Marawi Peace and Protection Project focal persons and child participants received plaque of recognition during the said event.

The Marawi Peace and Protection Project is a 1-year project that is part of the recovery phase of World Vision’s Marawi Armed-conflict Response. The World Vision Korea-funded project was launched last July 2018 to engage the Maranao youth and children in peacebuilding activities. The project also aims to strengthen the child-protection mechanisms in schools and in the community.

“The support of our partners is vital in making this project a success,” shares Adonis Casinillo, the project manager. “This ceremony is an expression of gratitude to our partners who journeyed with us in the project.”

The DepEd Marawi City Division Asst. Schools Superintendent, Ms. Ana Zenaida Alonto-Unte, highlighted the significance of the project. “There are many projects give in Marawi City but this one hits the mark by empowering children as peace advocates,” the official said.

The City Director of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Marawi City, Ms. Norhanie Marohombsan, also mentioned how the project supports the agency’s plans. “We will work hard to fully activate the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) in all barangays in the city. The Marawi Peace and Protection Project by World Vision is a big support as we mainstream child protection in the communities,” Ms. Marohombsan said during her speech.

The said ceremony was part of a 2-day transition activities as the project will phase out this month. Part of the activities were teambuilding sessions during the morning of June 26 and a transition workshop the following day.

The Marawi Peace and Protection Project covered 9 barangays in Marawi and Lanao del Sur and trained around 500 participants including barangay officials, teachers, and youth leaders on Peace building and Child Protection.
