600 children receive school kits in Davao City

Six hundred children in Davao City received school kits through World Vision’s Back-to-School Campaign, giving them the essential learning materials they need to begin the academic year with confidence and excitement.

The support comes at a time when many Filipino children continue to face barriers to education including learning gaps, limited resources, and financial challenges at home. Recent findings from the EDCOM II Year Two Report underscore the urgent need to strengthen learning outcomes and ensure every child receives the support necessary to succeed in school.

Through the Back-to-School Campaign, World Vision goes beyond providing essential school supplies by supporting children’s learning, development, and well-being through age-appropriate and community-based initiatives. The campaign aims to help children stay in school and continue pursuing their dreams while easing the burden on families preparing for the new academic year.

For nine-year-old Cylland, a Grade 4 learner, the school kit means being ready for class.

“I am very happy because I received a bag from World Vision. It already has notebooks, paper, pencils, and ballpens. School supplies are important to me so I have something to use in class. Thank you very much to World Vision for giving school supplies,” he shared.

For many children, having new school supplies brings excitement and motivation for the coming school year.

Althea Summer, 12, an incoming Grade 7 student, said receiving a new school bag and supplies makes a big difference.

“New school supplies are very essential for a new school year,” she said, recalling how flooding recently affected her school and disrupted learning. “This World Vision bag gives me a source of joy because children can have new school supplies. You’re not just giving school supplies, you are giving hope and happiness to children.”

Liam, 10, an incoming Grade 6 learner, also expressed gratitude for the support.

“I’m so happy because I received school supplies from World Vision. Thank you very much because other children don’t have money to buy their own. It helps mothers and fathers save money on expenses,” he said.

For 11-year-old Jhassiel Reign, the school kit represents opportunities for children to continue learning and achieve their dreams.

“This World Vision bag gives opportunity. It helps children finish school, enrich their dreams, and build a better future. If children miss school because they don’t have school bags, they can be left behind in their lessons and assignments,” he explained.

While school kits provide immediate support, World Vision emphasized that every donation contributes to long-term solutions, addressing learning poverty, improving literacy, supporting health and nutrition, and promoting child protection in communities.

For parents, the assistance eases both financial pressure and emotional worries as they prepare their children for school.

Melissa, a parent and community volunteer, said the support has been a blessing for her family.

“Receiving school kits from World Vision for my child is a big help to our family, especially because my child has a sponsor. It greatly eases our financial burden at home. This bag symbolizes hope for our family…hope that we are not alone in supporting our child’s education,” she shared.

Beyond financial assistance, Melissa also appreciates World Vision’s role in helping children develop holistically.

“World Vision is not only helping financially but is also contributing to the child’s overall development. I hope my child will grow up to be God-fearing, become a good example to others, and finish school,” she added.

Community volunteers also witnessed the positive impact of the campaign.

Kristine Veneracion, a community volunteer, highlighted the value of collaboration between organizations and local communities.

“It is very important for the barangay to have partnerships with organizations like World Vision, especially in addressing the needs of children living in poverty. The smiles of the volunteers and the active participation of the children show how meaningful this support is. It may seem simple, but it has a huge impact on the entire barangay,” she said.

The campaign also brought together private sector partners committed to supporting children’s education.

Jed, representing Solitaire Diversified Logistics Philippines, Inc., described the experience as both overwhelming and rewarding.

“It was our first time joining this kind of community outreach. Seeing hundreds of children and parents gathered here was overwhelming, but also fulfilling. Being part of causes like this truly makes us happy,” he said.

He added that giving back to communities is one of the company’s core values.

“We believe that the community is part of our success as a company. Supporting activities like this is something we hope to continue together with World Vision Philippines,” he said.

Through World Vision’s Back-to-School Campaign, a donation of ₱1,000 helps provide a child with school supplies while also supporting programs that help children stay in school, improve literacy, build confidence, and reach their full potential.

As children prepare to return to the classroom, each school kit serves as more than just a collection of supplies, it becomes a symbol of hope. It is a reminder that behind every backpack is a child with dreams, a family striving for a better future, and a community coming together to support them.

This is Hope Made Real, one child, one family, and one community at a time.
