“Poverty is the most unfair thing that can happen to a child, because they are born to it and have no choice. Now, those of us who are more blessed are given the opportunity to create change,” Nikki shares.
Last May 19, Nikki Gil visited the dumpsite at Umapad, Mandaue City to meet children formerly in child labor but are now assisted by World Vision.
As World Vision Ambassador, Nikki has made a commitment to help the plight of poor children and advocate for their rights. She hopes to see their needs firsthand and be their voice to the country and get as many Filipinos to help out children in need.
Children are also closest to her heart, and this is why she looks forward to inspiring these children not to let poverty get in the way of their dreams.
Worldwide, 72 million children are unschooled. In the Philippines, 10.9 million children live in poverty, most of whom are forced out-of-school.
But this June these children are asking to be counted in back to school.
World Vision hopes to give as many children the opportunity to learn in school through its Child Sponsorship Program.
By providing poor children in many of the most impoverished provinces in the country with the opportunity to get an education, receive healthcare assistance, protection from abuse, and livelihood opportunities for their families they are equipped with more chances to have a better life ahead.
World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. Visit our website at www.worldvision.org.ph.
