Usher in prosperity this 2012 through Child Sponsorship!
True to the message of the Chinese New Year greeting “Kung Hei Fat Choi”, World Vision invites you to spread prosperity and blessings to a child and a family in need this 2012 through Child Sponsorship!
Basketball idol Chris Tiu tells how he has shared his blessings to others and was blessed in return.
“I have always believed that the measure of happiness is not what we gain for ourselves, but how much we are able to enrich other people’s lives,” Chris shares.
Chris is a World Vision Child Sponsor and a staunch advocate of the welfare of children. Around June last year, he visited a World Vision assisted area to meet some of the children and families and personally see how their life is like.
“When I was in Baseco, ang daming batang patakbo-takbo lang kung saan-saan, iisipin mo kung anong klaseng suporta kaya ang nakukuha nila sa kanilang pamilya… kung nakakakain ba sila ng wasto, kung nakakapag-aral kaya sila, maayos ba ang tirahan nila… And I’m sure these needs are not met. So for us who are more blessed, we really have the responsibility to give back,” he adds.
For several years now, Chris has been actively involved in various World Vision activities, helping the organization gain supporters for the cause of poor children. He helps send two kids to school from a World Vision assisted community in Malabon. Last November, he led the organization’s “12-hour Famine” campaign calling on the nation to help end hunger in the country. When he has the chance, Chris also tells people about his advocacy with World Vision.
Just like his love and “calling” for sports, Chris considers helping children another big responsibility in life.
“We can’t keep waiting for others to make a change in this country, we have to start within ourselves. I always have it at the back of my head that although I have my own career and goals in life, I should never forget that I have a personal responsibility to give back and help the poor,” Chris assures.
World Vision hopes that with the support of people like Chris, more individuals and groups will be inspired to lend a hand to help poor families through Child Sponsorship.
As we go around greeting people “Kung He Fat Choi”, Chris has this encouragement: “I want to encourage everyone who would like to make a difference in other people’s lives. This is a very noble deed to go out of your way, save a little bit and use it to sponsor a child. You’ll never know how far that 600 a month can go!”
