World Vision and implementing partners prepare to set up safe spaces for children and women in Lanao

World Vision together with its implementing partners, Ecosystems Work for Essential Benefit (Ecoweb), Mindanaw Tripartite Youth Core (MTYC), Tapukan Farmers MPC (TFMPC), Lanao Youth Council (LYC), and Ranaw Watch for Empowerment Network (RAWATEN), Inc. prepare for the setting up of child-friendly spaces CFS) and women and young children spaces (WaYCS) in five municipalities in Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte.

CFS provides children with a safe place to recover from traumatic event, get psychosocial support through activities like games, arts and crafts, team-building and structured educational lessons. WAYCS on the other hand is a safe corner for mothers to spend time with their infants after an emergency. The intervention provides interactive psychosocial sessions, practical discussions on breastfeeding during emergencies, and re-lactation peer support.  Breastfeeding kits for mothers and their children will also be provided.

Recent assessment results showed that despite ongoing relief efforts for displaced families from Marawi City, interventions are still needed on health and nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene (WaSH), livelihood, food access, children’s education and psychosocial needs.World Vision/October 11, 2017
